With reference to your despatch No.453 (9/19D/34)
of April 23rd, I have the honour to report that, in the
absence of Mr. Holman, I handed yesterday to Mr. Hau šo,
the Vics Linister for Foreign Affairs, the memorandum
regarding the revision of the Canton-Kowloon Railway Work-
ing »greement, which formed an enclosure in your despot ch
under ref era os.

2. As directed, I thereupon added that the Hongkong
Government delegates would be ready to open negotiations
at any time after April 21st sad therefore in feet were
already ready but that the Hongkong Government had not
yet received any official intimation from the Chinese side
of any desire to proceed or even as to the final consti-
tution of the Chinese delegation. I further added that
you suggested the desirability that the Waichin opu should
arrange that the finel constitution of the Chinese dale-
getion, ineluding the memes of the representatives of the
Kwangtung Government, should be communion ted to the Hongkong
Government without delry.
3. Mr. Hau No seemed to think the same. He said that
he had not followed this question recently, but would now
speak to the Minister of ñmilways, Kr. Xu Mang-yü, personelly,
I have the honour to be,
3ir.
